The Campaign for Greener Arbitrations (CGA) has announced the new Co-Chairs of its Global Steering Committee for the upcoming 2026-2028 term. The Centre’s CEO, Andrew Mackenzie, and Laura Halonen (Wagner Arbitration) were announced as the incoming Co-Chairs of the Committee. Ms Halonen and Mr Mackenzie will be joined by Vice Co-Chairs, Olivier André (Freshfields) and Karen Tan (Maxwell Chambers). Ms Halonen and Mr Mackenzie previously served as Co-Chairs of the Campaign’s Europe Committee for the past term, while André co-chaired the North America Committee and Tan co-chaired the Institutions Task Force.
CGA is a global initiative founded in 2019 by Ms Lucy Greenwood with the aim of reducing and minimising the environmental impact and carbon footprint of international arbitrations through behaviour change. It promotes sustainable practices through the “Green Pledge” and “Green Protocols,” to encourage greater use of virtual hearings, electronic communications, and eco-friendly hearing venues.
The Centre is a signatory to the Campaign. It has integrated green policies into its innovative rules, which make it a requirement for the Green Protocols to be considered during the arbitration process. In addition, the Centre’s Green Policy reflects our commitment to greener arbitration (see here for more information).
The previous Co-Chairs were Christine Falcicchio (Sopra Legal) and Cherine Foty (Covington and Burling LLP). Ms Falcicchio and Ms Foty served on the Campaign’s Global Steering Committee since 2020, governing its over 100-attorney leadership structure of global and regional committees, and subject-matter task forces. Ms Falcicchio and Ms Foty were instrumental in publishing the Campaign’s Green Protocols.
Ms Falcicchio and Ms Foty will continue to serve alongside Campaign founder, Lucy Greenwood, on the Campaign’s Advisory Board.
The Campaign was created through a significant personal commitment from Ms Greenwood and her commitment to conduct her arbitration practice in a more sustainable manner and to help encourage and incentivise others to join her on this goal. This led to the launch of the Green Pledge in 2019. The Green Pledge now has nearly 2,000 signatories (including the Centre). Greenwood reflects:

Much of this is down to the dedication and drive shown by the Global Steering Committee under the exceptional leadership of Christine and Cherine. The incoming leadership team can now build on the solid foundation they have created. As an entirely volunteer led organisation, the Centre is proud to provide continued support and representation for the Campaign for Greener Arbitration”.
Mackenzie said:
“In the upcoming term, the Campaign will continue its outreach to new and current Green Pledge signatories to inform them on best practices toward more sustainable arbitrations. Laura and I have a focus on implementation and practical support for practitioners and will draw upon our prior leadership roles in the Campaign to continue to propel it forward”.
