The impact of disruptive technologies is being felt across all sectors and the Scottish legal system is not isolated from these. Clients and practitioners alike stand to benefit from these changes but it will require the introduction of innovative processes and the development of the appropriate skills to make the most of the new environment. In England and Wales, there are moves to take some forms of dispute resolution online, while here in Scotland, the senior judges have been working to increase the use of technology in the Scottish Courts.
Further developments in this area will require the right processes and the right people.
In this lecture, Angela Grahame QC, Vice Dean of the Faculty, will outline and discuss (i) accessibility through an online platform in the Faculty of Advocates’ online personal injury arbitration Scheme – and the possibilities for future development in this, and other areas and (ii) the need to ensuring a coherent body of expertise in Scotland to service this growing market.
