Andrew Mackenzie, Chief Executive of the Centre, and Brandon Malone, Chairman of the Centre, represented the Scottish Arbitration Centre at the International Bar Association Annual Conference in Boston between 6-11 October.
The International Bar Association (IBA) is an international association of lawyers and lawyers’ associations which promotes an exchange of information between legal associations worldwide. This year its annual conference saw around 6,000 international lawyers meet in Boston. Many of those were from the international arbitration community.
As well as attending various conference sessions on arbitration and mediation, Andrew and Brandon were invited to numerous additional events, and attended a number of breakfasts and receptions held by various organisations and law firms, including Jenner & Block; the Law Society of Scotland; the UK and Irish Bars; White & Case; Peters & Peters; the Law Society of Northern Ireland; and Miles & Stockbridge. They were also the guests of the British Consulate General in Boston at a UKTI reception, and attended the IBA Arbitration Committee Dinner.
Brandon Malone said:
“The IBA Annual Conference always has a very strong arbitration stream, and this year was no exception. There was a huge amount of interest in our energy arbitration project, and we now have a lot of work to do to follow up on that interest and deliver on the promise that the project holds.”
Andrew Mackenzie said:
“IBA Boston provided us with a premium platform to interact and exchange ideas with international arbitrators, lawyers, publishers, and other international arbitration centres. It allowed us to network with 6,000 delegates, including many of the leading players in arbitration, and further advanced our objective to put Scotland on the international arbitration map.”
